Orienteering Day - San Francisco January 20th

Posted on Jan 19 2018 - 8:21pm

Scouts,

Remember to get prepared tonight for the Orienteering outing tomorrow. Follow instructions below, and wear your Class B or troop jacket or troop sweatshirt. We may need to find each other in a crowd. If anyone has a Fitbit, please keep track of the mileage. In addition to having fun, getting exercise, and perfecting your orienteering skills, this hike may count towards a 10-miler requirement for Hiking merit badge. Specifically, meet at the entrance on the North side of the station before 8:30. That way we can enter BART as a unit.

Are you ready to see things you never knew existing in San Francisco? You know Harry Potter stuff like secret gardens,  hidden placards about Spiders and Secret Clubs,  famous towers with views “to die for”, and chocolate grinders which leave a melt in your mouth taste!

On top of that you can become an expert in using a compass, check of 4 requirements on the Orienteering Merit Badge, and hang out all day with your scout friends?

If this sounds like fun to you (did I mention eating chocolate?) then sign up now Here for the Orienteering day in San Francisco on Jan 20. We will post

We will leave from the Lafayette Bart Station at 830 and return at 5pm on Jan 20th.

Costs: $20.00 plus a base plate Compass

You need to bring:

  1. Money for a Bart ticket round trip ( Less than $10.00) and extra drinks
  2. A pack lunch
  3. Water
  4. Jackets--it gets cold in San Francisco
  5. And a compass—a baseplate compass is best and readily available at REI

Lunches - participants bring brown bag lunches for  Saturday

RSVP  must be received no later than by Friday, January 5th.

We will buy tickets at the Bart Station

Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions at mattariker@hotmail.com

Yours In Scouting, Mr. Ariker

PS Did I mention chocolate ?

Ski Trip - Sign Up now! Register before January 5th!

Posted on Dec 17 2017 - 1:42pm

Hi Troop!   Sign Up Here

Are you ready for the mountains with your skis and snowboards? It’s time to sign up for the Troop 224 annual ski trip on February 2nd - 4th, 2018.

Each year we head up to Tahoe for a weekend of skiing/snowboarding fun! This year, once again, we are staying at Granlibakken Lodge in Tahoe City and skiing at Alpine Meadows on Saturday and Sugar Bowl on Sunday. Please find below some important logistics:

Accommodation

We are staying at Granlibakken Lodge, arriving Friday night and departing Sunday morning. The cost for lodging based on dorm room bunk bed sleeping arrangements is $120 per person. The price includes two nights stay and two morning breakfast buffets. Adults may elect to make their own arrangements with Granlibakken should dorm style sleeping arrangements not work.

Meals

Dinner Friday night is decided by individual carpool. There are fast food options in Auburn and Colfax.

Lunches - participants bring brown bag lunches for both days, however fast food options are also available at both ski resorts.

Saturday night - we will have use of the Granlibakken ski hut and BBQ grill again this year.

Ski Lift Pricing

Alpine Meadows

Adult (19-64 years) - $99

Youth Adult (13-19 years) - $83

Please make your own travel plans to/from Tahoe. If you are a scout, please bring $20 for your driver to offset gas/vehicle expenses.

In order to reserve your spot, please sign up on the attached Google docs no later than Friday, January 5th and make payment to PayPal by carefully following the directions on the Troop 224 website. Be sure to include on the Google doc the age category of the participants so we can purchase the appropriate tickets.
