Camporee Prep

Posted on Apr 14 2018 - 7:51am

The Camporee Prep outing is intended to prepare patrols to succeed at the annual Camporee competition on May 5th. Patrols will rotate between events and be scored according to the attached booklet just like they will be at Camporee (i.e., Scouting Olympics). Each of the following events will be led by a Senior Patrol member.  Winner takes all!

  • Fire Building
  • Knots
  • Lashings
  • Model Camp
  • Nature
  • Campsite Inspection
  • Meal Scoring
  • Campfire Skit
  • Scouts Own (non-denominational religious reading)

Food: Eat breakfast before you arrive at the hut, and bring your own lunch or snacks for Saturday.  Bring your own breakfast, or eat when you get home. The camp site has water, tables, and BBQs.

Facilities: The group campsite has toilets, trash cans, and fire pits. Beware of poison oak because it is everywhere in this park! Ticks could also be present, so you may want to wear long sleeves and pants. To prevent people from coming and going at night, the gates to the park lock at sundown and don’t open until sunup.

Philmont Practice Hike #4: Everyone is welcome to hike to the top on Sunday after we close the Camporee Prep outing. Philmont crews are required to carry a 40-pound pack with camping gear, food, and water (no books, rocks, weights, or other items that you are not willing to carry at Philmont).

Watch your email for car pool requests from your Patrol Leader. See the link for directions to the North Gate entrance to Mt. Diablo State Park. Show the ranger the attached reservation to get directions to the group campsite.

Please email our Trip Leader Anthony Mirabito if you have any questions, and we’ll share FAQs with the group on 4/19.
